It happened many years ago, I remember like yesterday.

The sun by the pond was hot that day, so I sought out the shade.

Splashed my face with pond water, I found my favorite tree.

As I laid within the gentle shade, an old man came up to me.

He wore a beard to hide his face, his eyes were soft and warm.

He smiled a silly toothless grin, his cloths ragged and worn.

He staggered twords my favorite tree, silent, he sat down next to me.

His face, his eyes, his actions, never showing hostility.

“Can you hear the voice?” He finally spoke, his voice calming, kind, and free.

“The breeze, set free, to surf the leaves can speak if you believe.”

“So, what does it say?” I inquired, fixed in stare eye to eye.

“Each person hears a voice all their own.” The old man quickly replies.

“O.K. old man whatever, I hear no voice calling to me.”

“You must crave the voice,” He said softly “you must let you soul be free.”

So I closed my eyes, opened ears, and listened closely to the breeze.

Within moments heard soft whispers, humming faintly through the leaves.

I open up my eyes, and to my surprise, still hear the chant.

I strive to understand the words, yet, try as I may I can’t.

“Ahhh, you hear it!” The old man taunted “you hear it call your name?”

“I hear a voice, but it’s far too faint” to the old man I explain.

“You must embrace the song it sings, believe that it’s sincere.”

“Shelter deep with its warmth becoming one with what you hear!”

“The voice will grant you wonders, treasures not to be believed!”

“There is no limit to the miracles, the winds whisper can conceive!”

I closed tight my eyes again, left open soul and heart

Listened still and silent for the winds whisper to start

“Finally! I HEAR IT!” I cried “it’s nearly silent but it’s there!”

“A warm and gentle calling, like Sacred angel speech on air!”

Excited, I turned to face the wise old man, just to find him gone.

Yet, still I hear his soft broken voice chanting the whispers song.

My frantic shocked eyes searched everywhere, the old man just wasn’t there!

“Goodbye my friend I hope you’ve learned” came a friendly whisper riding the hot noon air.

Have you ever had to stop and scream, release to air vile debris?

Have you stopped amongst a gathered crowd, grabbed your head and howled loud?

Have you ever felt a pain, deep in the inner vein, relentless, unrelenting, driving you insane?

Have you ever just felt lost, forgotten without cost, a log free floating on the river, shattered against the rocks and tossed

I have felt deeply that way…
Gave up on hope and love, I ran away..
Scared and cowering in the rain…
Curled in the fetal, telling myself I’m brave…

But the Dark can break you can’t it, it’s sledge hammer can crush bone
It’s scars of black sticky tar, consume what’s left of hallowed soul

And in the QUICKSAND of black you struggle, pictures in your mind of life
Gasping, fighting for every breath, you give in to the Christ… hand reaching towards the light

And suddenly the QUICKSAND thickens and you can stride upon its shore
The tar no longer sticky, the current drives you to the shore

A fog still all about you, so much happening, so quick
One moment I’m on solid ground, the next I’m in the Darkness thick…

But that’s mortal life? Isn’t it?…
Embrace the Light, Avoid the thick…
For it does take effort to achieve it…
If it took nothing, what would nothing get?
What would be the worth in it…
It is the Trails that prove your reverent !!!!

Has your eye ever gazed at the sky, casting a prism from your tears
I promise you One day it will, if you lay down your Earthly fears

Have you ever looked to Heaven, Looked to God, and Looked to Christ????
Have you ever SCREAMED “AGGGG! I LOVE YOU LORD !” In the middle of the night?

I HAVE…
YOU SHOULD TRY IT,
I PROMISE YOU IT IS QUITE GRAND!

Here I am at the black Tar Pit…

Walking around, circling it…

When I turn to leave my mind and soul fall in…

Swamped by depression, tar, and sin

It’s sticky in here and I can’t move…

Panicly, frantic on what to do…

As my mind sinks deeper in the goo…

Waving arms and kicking feet, a statue…

I do not move…

I want to reach for dry land, but this Tar Pit pulls me down

It’s liquid darkness courting me, as it caresses around

But I know inside of me, there is more strength to be found

And I will fight with Jesus at my side, to drag my mind and soul to solid ground….

Lost within the deep Tar Pit, mind sinking into shadowy black

But the hand of Christ reaches down to me to pull my sinking black soul back

I’ve walked the Tar Pits all my life, I know how shadows attack

So now that I’ve found Jesus I can fight the shadows back….

Know that!

So I will take the swim right now, if life demands I need the Tar…

Because it’s the hardships and trails of life that define who we are….

And I know Jesus will tend to me, without a cost or charge…

And pull my mind and soul from the darkness, and save me from the Tar…

To be Christian does not demand perfection, can’t tell you how many times I’ve fell

To be Christian means you Love the Christ, and in your heart you let that swell

It’s not about the charity you give, or if you lose temper at a store

It’s not a measure of your worth, but it does mean far much more

A Christian clears a space in their heart, a shelter for God to live

They re-evaluate their lot in life, they start to beyond themselves start to give

Not monetary, not material, it’s a healing of the soul

And with domino effect, it topples all your sin to go

You feel fuller in the you, a warm I can’t describe

As if Christ Himself with wings wrapped around were staring eye to eye

That’s EXACLY what it is…

So to HIS grace you freely give…

To be Christian means to care for kin, whoever that kin may be

Please look deep inside yourself, find Christ, and be a Christian with me!

Amen
