BRIAN DOERKSEN: I DON’T NEED ANYTHING BUT YOU

On August 11, 2021, I had a several hours round trip, provisioning (shopping ugh!). I thought of several teachers I could listen to but opted for the CD already in the media slot in the car. It is Holy God by Brian Doerksen, the Canadian Worship leader – this is a brilliant CD I have had for more than a dozen years. I love the orchestrated ending on “Light The Fire Again” which I replayed twice – next but one up was “I don’t need anything but You” AND IMEDIATELY my heart went to chapter 2 “Remember, Remember” in Anne Hamilton 2018 book ‘DEALING WITH ZIZ – Spirit of Forgetting’.

She says this near the end of the chapter: “Don’t despise rote learning. The vast majority of people need repetition to forge neural pathways in their brains. We need to deliberately and consciously choose techniques God has given us.” I knew instantly what to do. So, I put “I don’t need anything but You” on repeat and soaked in it all the drive.
