Standing on the jetty, old and dark
Where steady it rests on ocean’s heart
Beneath the glistening morning sun
Water lies deep where ocean tides run
There on the bottom of the watery land
I see a couple walking hand in hand
At first they looked strange, surely not from here
But at second glance the mirror became clear
Unexpectant a whale glides over their heads
And I questioned, why are they not dead?
For beneath the deep seas,
they simply march on
Breathing in rivers
and smiling at the sun
