For This Is Written

The gospel of Christ: I am not ashamed.

When I look at my wayward life

What I fail at what I have aimed,

Where I fell short which I proclaimed;

The gospel of Christ is the Lord’s power.

I am blessed with a faithful wife,

A garden with herbs and flowers –

How brief is each day and hour.

The righteous shall live by faith, in you. And me?

When life batters, cuts like a knife,

What I assume or not foresee,

Fill me with hope—my longing plea.
