GHOST TOWN

Knowledge puffs up, the Apostle tells us,
To know a thing is not to live it out;
Experience teaches where memory fails us,
To do a thing is what it’s all about.

To listen, and to learn, without learning,
Regurgitating pearls as everyone sits;
To read, and sing, and pray without yearning,
Is one who looks in a mirror and forgets.

Chatting and gabbing, waxing thick and thin,
Displaying knowledge known to only some;
Picking it up where lesser talkers end,
To lead the charge, and beat the weary drum.

Yap, yap, yap, we have done enough talking,
Empty the streets created for walking.

A sinner saved by grace. I live in Boise, Idaho, USA where I mow lawns, run a nonprofit, and write poetry.
